2009/6/26 Transformers 2 VS Terminator SalvationAfter I watched Transformers 1, I thought it would be a really long time before we could see Transformers 2. But I forgot the fact that time flies!! There are more fight scenes in Transformers 2 and if you think you cannot get enough those fighting machines in Transformers 1, then Transformers 2 can possibly satisfy your needs on this. The only thing I don’t like is Megatron’s look has been changed dramatically. Megatron is nothing different from a monster. Although he is a bad guy, yet he has a better look in the cartoons. Optimus Prime and Bumblebee are ok, because they still have the original colors, and Optimus Prime still has the symbol of those two big windows on his chest. It’s definitely a cool action movie, and there are lots of high tech scenes, without which I guess maybe Egyptians might go nuts to see their national treasures are being tortured like that. There are some interesting scenes like Sam acting like a psycho in his astrology class, as well as the little Decepticons being captured by Sam’s girlfriend. It was a good movie, and it’s worth my 80RMB. As for Termination Salvation, I was a little bit disappointedly speechless in the end after having stepped out of the theatre. It was just ok, sadly, but I don’t know where this feeling comes from. There are great scenes like men fighting versus Skynet, but overall it makes me feel that John is stupid and does not have a right intuition for Marcus. And human race appears to be so weak and silly compared with machines. I did not see much hope in the film, which should have been emphasized more, I suppose. So the overall tone is quite gloomy and depressing. Plus I did not see any humorous scenes at all. I like watching movies in theatres and having a bowl of popcorns, but I have encountered some people with bad behaviors in the theatre: talking crazily loud, kicking your chair occasionally like they do not notice or answering cellphones. I know I am not entitled to judge others or teach them things that are supposed to be taught by their moms, but as a citizen and a human being, we do deserve a fine environment without being disturbed too much by others. I think after these two movies, there might not be any great big action movies this summer, but I am actually expecting more good dramas or comedies this summer. We will see. 2009/6/21 Time Schedule For A Lazy SundayI wanted to buy a watch and finally I got one on Saturday after the medical check. I got up quite early on Saturday, and it took me 1.5 hours to get to the appointed hospital in the morning. After that my classmate went along with me to buy a Citizen watch. We watched Terminator Salvation and Madame Tussauds Wax Figure Gallery in the afternoon before I went to see Henny and Ganesh who came to Shanghai for a short visit before they headed back to Singapore. Although my classmate acted like a big jerk when he left me without saying a goodbye at the Wax Figure Gallery, I did not have time to think much before I met Henny at Pearl Tower. I had expected that Saturday would be quite busy, and so it was. We had a nice dinner at The Tandoor which was my first time to have good Indian food, and I took them to Yu Garden for shopping. Then we went to Captain Bar for a beer, where we could take a look at the other side of the Bund, and it was all good. I am glad that they enjoyed their time here and I had fun as well. At midnight I headed back home on a taxi after we said goodbye. Sunday was going to be lazy and that was my plan. Now let’s take a look at my Sunday which was recorded by my new watch. =)
2009/5/31 SJTU Idol JudgeI was invited to be the judge for “SJTU English Song Competition” last year, and I was invited to be the judge this year again, thanks to Shady. Of course, as a monitor of “WesternMusic” on BBS, I am always quite honored and excited to do the job. This year’s “Idol” competition finished several weeks ago, but I decided to put it up here to remind myself of this. I am the kind of person who is eager to have my stage to show what I got, and if it’s the right time I would not let the opportunity slip away. So after I was given the microphone to make some comments on the contestants, I did not hesitate to preach whatever I had prepared on my mind. Although I don’t even remember exactly what I was speaking, I just felt so cool to be like “Simon Cowell” for one minute. Surely, my attitude was not as nasty as Simon’s. It’s awesome to be a judge down there, but I am sure it would really rock to be on the stage to show the talent. Unfortunately, singers were not that professional, and the judges and the performers were quite amateurish to some extent as well, quite frankly speaking. The nerves in the air just killed some of the contestants, and of course it did not make us feel right either. But, again, I did feel good to be one of the judges down there to give any kind of “professional” comments on the contestants, although the result might not be what I wanted to see. After all, I was not the only one who decided the winner, but I was just glad that I did my job and had my judgment without any bias. 2009/5/18 Rock Climbing VS. ArcheryLately, I have done something I don't do usually. Rock climbing, the kind of sports I did in high school, I knew it's tough, because it requires the right techniques and some training on the arms. I did not sleep well after I went back home that night, since after reaching the top twice my arms were totally worn out. But I am quite proud of myself already. As for the archery, I did not know it's been quite popular here, and it's not as easy as it looks. It was my first time to shoot the arrows. After three rounds, my left arm was so stiff and sore that it cannot lift the bow without shaking, and then I gave up. It was great fun though, not as exhausting as rock climbing. I would love to do it again, definitely. 2009/4/6 Shanghai ArboretumThought I would have spent my whole Qingming Festival in my apartment playing DotA by myself, but I was invited to have a BBQ at my colleague's house first, and then I was asked to go to Shanghai Arboretum with my classmates the next day. So my Qingming was pretty ok, since I did not really have time sit down to write anything until now. There are many kinds of flowers in the arboretum and it was sunny on Sunday, so the 40RMB ticket seemed to be quite worth it. I did not have plans for sweeping tombs, since my grandfather's tomb is not here. The 3-day holiday is well needed at this point. I like traditions, and I like the tradition of buying ice creams before movies every time we pass that DQ store. We watched "Examination 1977" at the same theatre, and it's a good movie. The BBQ on Saturday was quite special, because it was all rainy on Saturday, and we were having the BBQ under a big umbrella. It was quite cozy and nice around the fire, with the rain drops on the surface of the umbrella. Food was not the point, but it was the conversation that kept us relaxed and chilled. The driver dropped me off at my place, and the rain was quite crazy. Never did I think the next day would be that sunny. It was good to go out on a sunny day, and I believe everybody thinks the same. So it was quite crowded in the park, and that's the part I don't like. We did not take any food to the park, so we were quite hungry during lunch time. As the food in the park generally sucked, we tried pretty hard to get a taxi taking us to downtown for food.
By the bye, my hamster had 4 babies on March 24th...Those creatures are really something, I have to say. 2008/11/27 One Basketball MatchI don't play basketball, because I hurt my wrist when I was playing it in junior high. I thought it's a dangerous game. Then yesterday, I played it again with our team, mainly because it is an irresistible game after all, I have to admit. During the ten minutes I was on court, I made one shot!! Actually, two. The other one was said to be a fault. It was nice though... 2008/9/20 Shanghai Golden Grand PrixI thought the tickets for the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix would be so hard to get as Christina Aguilera's concert, but when I tried to make a reservation for a ticket, the lady told me not to worry, because there would be plenty of tickets-and I could just buy one before my entering the stadium. Being a diehard sports fan, I have never had the chance to watch track and field in a stadium, and this time is definitely my perfect time. I played badminton for a whole afternoon, so the time was quite so tight that I couldn't buy the shampoo in Watsons. Since I did not buy the ticket, I needed to ask one of the policemen where to buy one. "You want to buy one?" He asked. I nodded, thinking you don't need to repeat my question, and for god sake, please just tell me where to buy one, instead of wasting the time. He looked at me up and down, and I felt kind of weird-typical old Shanghainese. But what he would do next definitely proved I was wrong about Shanghainese. "Here is a ticket, and just take it." He handed me one ticket, and let me into the stadium. Wow! Am I dreaming? I took the ticket, and thanked him. Trying not to show my excitement, I walked in as calm as I could possibly be. Maybe the lady in the ticket office is right-not many people would go watching the game while another concert is going on just beside the stadium in the Grand Stage. Anyway, I could finally get in to watch the game, and it's awesome. What a nice policeman.
After Nancy Lagat, Beijing Olympic Gold Medal winner, won Women's 1500 meters, she ran around the stadium to celebrate her victory. I saw her, and I waved to her, smiling at the same. Then she threw her bouquet towards me, but unfortunately maybe she tried quite hard in her competition-the flower dropped on the ground. :( Still lovely though-The champion and I are just in zero distance. Of course, other champions passed my section too, but their bouquets must have been thrown to the audience right after their winning. It was so much fun to watch the game, and I loved it. The athletes are quite friendly, because they always smile back at me...lol...I left the stadium at 10pm when the last match, women's 100 meters hurdles, was finished.
Tomorrow I am heading to Xiamen again...I did not know my going back could be so fast, and I hope it would be great again. 2008/6/18 Womrats from The Sims 2 PetsOMG!! Sims are lucky to be able to have womrats!!! Those little creatures are just like my hamsters...LOL...It seems hamsters are not just popular here in my dorm... 2008/5/23 Torch Relay In SJTUThough I slept for just about 5 hours due to the noise from those little hamsters and the interruption of those disgusting mosquitoes coming out of nowhere because of the rain last night, I still rushed out of dorm in the early morning, forgetting my cellphone on the table. Thank god I finished breakfast, otherwise I would have worn out while running along the torch relay later. It was much more fun than I thought, and it was so exciting to see all of those red-hearted students and teachers. Of course I am one of them as well; damn proud of it. It was worth getting up early to observe the occurrence of history.
I'd like to take a big fat nap after this...hmmm...A piece of pizza and some milk tea afterwards would be nice... Golf With Jeans OnThought little about the dressing code before I played golf for the first time in my life, well, technically practiced golf. It's harder than I thought, and after several balls my palms were sore. Also it needs some techniques, otherwise the waist would suffer as well. It was a lot of fun, and I loved it. Considering the price for the membership which is at least about 1 million RMB, I don't even know when I can officially play golf on the green, and yet experiencing is already more important than being professional in this game for me.
2008/5/17 Lunch ParkWe always walk a little bit after lunch around "Purple Pig" Buildings, since afternoon work will still be stressful. Last Friday, me and other people found a nice place for lunch walk. The shuttle takes 5 minutes to get there, and the view is nice. It's a little park beside the river, and everything seems to be quiet and fresh. We will surely go there later on after lunch...
It's a nice feeling to have a break from the things we are trying to do and the grief we are suffering. It's been 5 days, and the aftershocks are still there...The disastrous earthquake surely is a national disaster. I hope China will get through this soon...Bless...Thanks to those lovely volunteers, soldiers, doctors, nurses and the people who try to help and rescue those buried under the debris, we have the faith that China will stand up tall, and we will be ok. We salute you... 2008/2/7 The Digest of DumplingsI am always a big fan of dumplings, and of course, every year when my family makes dumplings during the Chinese New Year Eve, I always eat as much as I can. This year is no exception. First I had dumplings in a restaurant for lunch, then I had dumplings at home in the middle of the night when the first day of Mouse Year was about to come. I just ate so many that I found my jaws muscles are worn out the next day... Here are the dumplings(called Zhong Dumplings) I had during noon:
2008/1/12 Saturday Night Pics2008/1/3 The First Blog in 2008Well, actually, I should have written my words on January the 1st, but I just didn't want to make it like such a big deal, since getting into 2008 is just our responsibilities, for ourselves, for our families, for those who care about us. Life has to move on. Tonight, I don't want to write anything "special", and I just want to share a movie with you guys. This is my first time to recommend a movie here on my space, and I know I am not a good movie commenter, so I will just show you the poster and how I feel about it briefly. There you go:
The theme of the movie is quite simple--love and relationship. It reminds me of lots of things, and I found it's quite interesting. Of course, it also shows that Paris is not always beautiful as shown in TVs. I like Americans' laugh-at-everything's attitude. The characters are acting quite naturally, and more often it's like an amateur movie. Maybe just because of this, the movie seems to be more real and likable. For the fading memories, I, personally, think this movie is worth seeing, not only once. Cheers~~ 2007/11/14 Pics Updates From TMCS 20072007/11/10 Pics from Masters Cup Shanghai 2007Too busy this year, so I don't think I will have time for this tennis masters cup, though Vance let me have the extra ticket to be an unofficial volunteer...I wanted to work there because I promised to get some tickets, but now it seems I don't need to get some tickets. I didn't go to Qizhong today, because there are some other stuff I need to catch up in school. Anyways, sitting in the Mercedez-Benz official car to run an errand, and attracting people's attention were quite cool. I bought three DVD players for Roger Federer, Djokvic and Nadal, and it took me a whole day. I don't really have the passion to take the pics there any more, maybe I have done enough last year. Sometimes, I feel this kind of job was a sort of burden, so different from last year when I was so excited to see everything. Am I getting old? I got the accreditation card yesterday, and that means I can go there whenever I want, though it's a little different from other volunteers. I just love this kind of freedom, which I earned from last year. My problem is that every night, I had nightmares, because I had a bad day last week. Things have not sunk in yet, but I hope those nightmares will not get any worse... PS:My camera sucked at Beyonce's concert, so I took pics using my cell phone, instead of my stupid camera...
So much for the pics today, since I don't want to get into any trouble...I am the best volunteer, like Vance said. Sometimes just a word is enough to push me forwards... 2007/11/5 Beyonce Concert @ ShanghaiIt was a great performance and quite exciting during the whole concert. She is adept at making a hot atmasphere, and it was quite successful. Here are some pics:
2007/10/5 UpdateHaven't been here for days, and I just miss my space...Actually, there is not much going on lately, so I found I can't put much here. I went to see the basketball games of the Special Olympic Games today, which is being held on our campus. I loved it, and I think I will continue watching it if I have time, since this game will not finish until 9th. Oct. It was pretty different to watch the special basketball games. Anyway it is an international event, and I am supporting this game by watching it in person, even though I didn't volunteer this time. Here are some pics I took today. |
